1. Market overview

 ○ Algeria, harbored significant potential enabling it to develop non-oil exports, particularly in regard to processed agricultural products and those of the chemical and petrochemical industries.

 ○ Algeria has chances, compared to other Maghreb countries, in exporting various products, including processed agricultural products, chemical and petrochemical industries. A training program export at the National Superior School of exports has been launched to help increasing the exports.

2. Demand Tendency

 ○ The volume of imports of chemicals is steadily increasing. There is a high demand and many companies are working in this sector.

 ○ Chemicals are highly imported and exported; the amount of imports almost equals the level of exports.

 ○ Private companies interviewed on the question stated that they were looking for suppliers that may offer them a good quality at a competitive price.

 ○ This business is fruitful and knows a high and regular demand and more particularly it is competitive.

 ○ Countries of the European Union adopted in January 2007 a new regulation called REACH directive economic which is a device Registration Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals. The implementation of the new directive should be officially from 1 January 2009.

 ○ This creates particular difficulties in terms of access to raw materials as in the field of pharmaceutical chemical paints glues etc…This is why importers of chemicals prefer to import from Korea South and Tunisia.

3. Competition Trend

□ Competition Outlook

 ○ Importers are more concerned about the price and the quality of the brand. Some countries have a good reputation and they are known for the good quality of their products, as far as competitive prices.

 ○ The Algerian market of chemical products is an important market and in constant growth as demand is regular especially when we know that there are many Algerian manufacturer companies in different sectors which its manufactured products need chemicals like DOP for example, so their consumption is very high.
