1. Market overview

 ○ Energy is the key driver of all economic activity, it is essential to continuously offer more energy sources and more efficient with lower costs. The electricity sector knows strong growth since the early 2000s in Algeria. The losses incurred by the various business operations due to power cuts were estimated in 2011 to nearly 200 billion centimes.

     Bakers are the most affected and have paid a heavy price. To cope with the situation, they will shortly be equipped with generators, under an agreement to be signed between the Bank BADR and a group of manufacturers of this equipment. The government needs to generalize the operation to other businesses that rely heavily on electricity, including butchers.

     The public Sonelgaz group plans to double its energy production by 2016 through the construction of new power plants totaling 12,000 MW. By 2022, Sonelgaz will also double its transport capacity through the installation of 20,000 km of high voltage lines and more than 300 substations.

     Finally, from the interviews we have had, it emerged that this activity is positive due to the absence of local manufacturers. Furthermore, because of the presence of many companies and important hotels, factories and some malls for instance, such equipment is demanded.

 ○ We contacted many companies that import or manufacture generating sets. When it comes to communicating about prices, importers are wary and prefer to keep it confidential. However, we have had an Algerian company that responded and sent prices for some brands. The type is soundproof diesel automatic start.
